BRIEF NOTE ON REVERSAL,BACKWARD AND INVERSAL IN LANGUAGE EXPRESSION OF CHILD



Reversal letters/numbers are those written in a backward manner . Example instead of printing ' b' child will write d and vice versa ,other letters commonly reversed are  j ,p ,q,t and c thus reversal are commonly observed in lower case alphabets.Numerical wise reversed are2,5,6,7and 9 are common.


Inverse letter/numbers are those that are written upside down or down side up such as m for w and vice versa with oppose to spoken language/sound.Usually notice in case of alphabets only.


It is necessary that such minor looking issue to be resolved at the time of child's early academic development to evade writing deterioration ahead.


It is observed that reversal and Inversal letters are common to happen while learning to write the alphabets or numbers , in initial part of writing development of child and right handed vs left hander but the child soon need to get over them and master to write all the letters and number perfectly. 


Child with Directionality concern always faces challenges with reading, writing and arithmetic task .


It not only poses difficulty in academic task but also in daily self care task such as disorganisely buttoning of uniform, wearing socks,shoes etc that takes load on time management. 


Furthermore, Reversals are also observed during the child's reading task such as instead of reading word 'saw' child read it as 'sam'. 


If timely support is not given to the child in early writing phase to correct the reversal and inversions then it may lead to writing refusal , avoiding to write, memorise spelling but will not prefer to write , avoid classroom task , addendence and so on.


Beyond age of seven years  ,if child continues showing confusion regarding letters /numbers ,this shall lead to problem with spelling , writing expression, putting thought on paper and so on would need remediation.


 Reversal remediation along with Perceptual remediation has solution for such problem as, it aims to support child with Directionality concern. Remediation provides help to overcome the daily challenges and improve confidence and esteem of child .It strengthens Discrimination,Memory & Visual Motor/Perceptual Motor ability of child required for literacy and daily task.



Remediation approach uses techniques that facilitate learning  to write and read in well manner and structurally. Boost the confidence that ultimately carries emotional wellbeing regarding the task. Learning to write and read with fun and play activities help to develop letter formation,pronounciation,blending, speed and so on. These skill are then carried forward in the context for learning to complete. Practicing process facilitates the neural pathways to strengthen,supporting the retrieval of learned material/stored knowledge.
