OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SESSION

 



Occupational therapy can be of  benefit to   the  children with Scholastic difficulties to improve Academic performance in classroom. 


Name of  child XYZ  attends Occupational therapy evaluation as per school referral for poor academic performance.

Occupational therapists developed therapeutic goals based on deficits areas found during evaluation. 

The therapeutic plan was then designed to cater  the child's needs. 

During the treatment session based on therapeutic goals and objectives,The therapist worked on deficit areas such as  core muscle strength, Visuo motor( eye hand coordination) , Handwriting skills,Perceptual and discrimination skills and  so on.


Relevant home program was also provided to parents to practice skills taught during session to support generalization/carry over to other context .

At the time of  Reevaluation/post evaluation child showed significant progress in scholastic skills.

 Furthermore the teacher and parent also acknowledged the change in academic productivity of the child name XYZ.

Indeed Occupational therapy can play an important role in helping students like XYZ to improve scholastic performance.

WRITING FROM BOARD

Often Parent & Teacher have concern that the child doesn't copy from blackboard that leads to incomplete work in classroom.Inability/Not able to keep up with - to Copy from board also impact academic progress & mental wellness of child. Thus you can implement this functional behaviour statergy  at home to help child to be productive in classroom & get appreciate for their efforts, Model the classroom situation at your home . Put up vertically a board at home . Have sit the child at a distance . Prompt the child to look at board and copy (first only words then grade it to sentences) Gradually start to fade the prompts. prompts to be used- -physical prompts then verbal prompts -your presences then your distance yourself from child while writing. RIGHT or LEFT or MIXED HAND?

U nderdeveloped Hand dominance can cause problem in further development of learning in child. As Child grows he need to develop his learning skills to overcome the challenges in daily occupations.                     HAND DOMINANCE   You may see a very young child keep switching hand while doing every task .It is quite normal to happen while early development of brain.At time it's quite confusing for parent to say assertively about child's hand preference .
